Hello There!

My name is Samuel Pike and I’m a Programmer with 5 years industry experience. I primarily use UE4 and C++ in my day-to-day workings, with some additional experience in Unity and C#. Virtual Reality has been a core focus in my contracting career so far, with a lot of involvement in gameplay mechanics, optimisation, systems and tools development, and much more.

  • BSc (Hons) and MA degrees.
  • Strong knowledge in UE4, C++, and VR.
  • Work closely with designers to turn their vision into tangible efficient code.
  • Prototype new gameplay mechanics and systems, usually expanding into fully fledged features with a clean and maintainable code architecture.
  • Working with all aspects of game engines (UI, animation, audio, FX, networking etc.) to ensure code and front-end elements realise the project’s vision.
  • Strong problem solving abilities utilised across creating, maintaining, optimising, profiling, and resolving bugs in code bases.
  • Strong communication skills from a career based on remote contracting.
  • Creating clear documentation to assist other developers to understand implementation, design approach etc.
  • Experience with Perforce (usage and management), Git, Jira, Hansoft, and other alternative Agile and source control tools.

Me:

  • Passionate about gaming, personal favourites include Bethesda’s open-world titles, Metal Gear Solid series, Overwatch, Apex Legends and many more.
  • Been playing guitar for the past 16 years or so – I’m a bit of a pop-punk rocker.
  • Massive Geek – if it’s geeky, I’m probably into it. Big fan of comic books, their movies, Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings – the whole lot!
